Ohatsu-Tenjin Shrine

There are so many shrines in Japan but the one we ended up going to was a shrine meant for praying for love. We didn’t even know this until we saw the banners and signs on the way to the temple.

The shrine has a sad love story behind it, which makes me wonder why this would be a place to pray for love. Let’s just say that this passionate love, that existed behind the couple that the shrine is named after, ends in a double suicide. Nevertheless, this is the site for couples to pray for love.

After years of watching anime, reading manga, and learning a little bit of Japanese culture from its pop culture, I was determined that we needed to get our little fortunes. We all managed to get good fortunes (ranging from lesser good, good, and greater good). It’s all good fun.

I love shrines and these little parts of the Asian culture. Next time I’m in Japan, I’ll definitely make more time to travel and see more shrines and temples.
