Peruvian Eats, Drinks, and Delicacies

In general, I was pretty satisfied with my meals while in Peru. Most of the places we went to were either buffet or a restaurant with a special menu for us to choose our courses from.

Mangos Buffet (Lima) – Wonderful food with a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean. It’s located jutting out of the cliffside.

Chicha (purple corn drink) and Pisco Sour, the Peruvian alcohol.

A little sampling of food – veggie salad, pasta salad, sushi, caprese, and little Peruvian appetizers.

Hotel La Hacienda (Lima) – Beautiful Spanish-inspired decor in the hotel restaurant.

Fetuccini en salsa de langostinos (Fettuccine with shrimp in sauce)

San Agustin Monasterio de la Recoleta (Sacred Valley, Cusco) – One of the more unique hotels we stayed at. It was once a monastery, the chapel is still in place but the residential buildings have been converted into rooms with modern facilities. The hotel restaurant was also once part of the monastery – loved the atmosphere.

Coca Qantas (Machu Picchu) – A random restaurant that we decided to go to for a mid-morning treat. We were looking for two certain items in particular…

Risoto de quinua con alpaca (Quino risotto with grilled alpaca)

Cuy al horno (Roasted guinea pig)

This particular meal had all of us out with our cameras — Peruvian delicacy of the guinea pig deserves nothing less.

Sara – the organic cafe-bistro (Cusco) – The cutest little restaurant with an amazing ceiling decoration of coloured, dried corn. Very organic and healthy options – beautiful presentation of food — too salty for my taste buds.

Mutu Food & Drink (Cusco) – Little restaurant by the town square in Cusco. They have a pretty nice mix of clientele – backpackers and locals. One of my favourite meals on the trip.
